Detailed description

The Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex is located on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Complex has two open to the public 18-hole championship golf courses with a first-class golf training center. The two courses are The Kampan Course and the Ackerman Hills Course.

The Ackerman Hills Course first opened for play in 1934. The course was designed by William Diddel. Larry Packard redesigned the Ackerman Hills Course in 1968. The course was redesigned in 2016 by Pete Dye.

The Ackerman Hills Course features narrow fairways lined with large, mature trees that provide beautiful blossoms in the spring and brilliant foliage in the fall. The terrain is hilly and the medium-sized greens are sloped and guarded by at least one sand bunker. The Purdue Men's Golf Team won its first championship on the course in 1961 and Jack Nickalus was the medalist the same year. Not only did a talented Purdue University Men's golf team win the NCAA Men's Golf Championship, they did it here on their home course! And thus began a tradition of hosting elite golf tournaments. Purdue University's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex hosted the 2008 NCAA Men's Championships and the 2003 NCAA Women's Championships on the Pete Dye designed Kampen Course. The best part is that when the top collegiate golfers in the country are not competing on the courses, the courses open to the public.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6436 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5325 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 18, a par-5 that plays to 555 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 9, a par-3 that plays to 160 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 2, a 390 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 1, a 375 yard par-4.
