Detailed description of Brighton Dale Links, White Birch

Brighton Dale Links is a public, 45-hole golf facility located in Kansasville, Wisconsin. The facility has two 18-hole golf courses and one 9-hole course.

The White Birch Course and The Blue Spruce Course are 18-hole, par 72 layouts that measure over 6,900 and 6,600 yards, respectively. The Red Pine Course is a 9-hole, par 36 layout of over 3,500 yards.

All 45 holes at Brighton Dale links offer distinctive variances. The complex features water, mature trees and hilly terrain along with well-manicured playing conditions.

Brighton Dale Links, The White Birch Course and The Red Pine Course both opened for play in 1972. These two courses were designed by Edmund B. Ault. The Blue Spruce Course opened 20 years later, in 1992. The Blue Spruce Course was designed by Steven Halberg.

The White Birch Course plays to a par-72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,977 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,859 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 6, a par-5 that plays to 573 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 4, a par-3 that plays to 188 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 2, a 539 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at White Birch is # 15, a 200 yard par-3.

Do Not Recall (cart not included), played on Wednesday, July 2013 at 3:10 PM

First, it should be mentioned, the entire Brighton Dale Links complex lies immediately North (across Hwy.142) from Bong State Recreational Area. As well, there is an immediately adjacent picnic area (Brighton Dale Park) with playground, ball diamonds, and trails in a wooded area with pond. I was quite impressed by this Kenosha County complex of courses. Personally, it feels more like a much pricier country club.

White Birch is the 'forward' course (nearer to the access from Hwy.75 than the Blue Spruce course). The course has many tree-lined fairways, a good assortment of ponds and sand traps. As with Blue Spruce, there is a decided lack of variety in elevation (no real elevated tees or greens that I recall), and most fairways play fairly straight, though you will find a couple slight doglegs, especially #17 (a double-dogleg with bunkers and water to contend with to boot). Trees switch from deciduous (nearer the clubhouse) to evergreen (especially flanking #13 #16). As you approach the green on #10 you may hear traffic on Hwy.75. The next two holes parallel that highway, detracting a lot from the otherwise almost 'up north wilderness' feel of this course. Traffic (this time on Hwy.142) again invades as you near the green on #14.

All in all, a fine course if you ignore (or don't mind) the few holes along busy highways (though I'll prefer to stick with Blue Spruce or 9-hole Re Pines).
