Detailed description

Hidden Valley Country Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Salem, Virginia.

Hidden Valley Country Club first opened for play in 1952.

The man behind the design was highly decorated Golf Course Architect Dick Wilson. Though Wilson worked in the golf industry for most of his life, it wasn’t until after World War II that he became a self-proclaimed Golf Course Architect. As seen at Hidden Valley Country Club, Wilson’s designs were famous for broad fairways and large putting surfaces that were mainly accessible by aerial approach shots. Strategically placed bunkers, mainly present around the putting surface, were his way of forcing a player to access the putting surface through the air. His use of “tongues” on the putting surface allowed for many strategic and difficult hole locations. Use of these “tongues” are present at Hidden Valley.

The course sits on hilly terrain. The narrow fairways are tree lined, and the greens are large and undulating. There is one water hazard coming into play on hole #12, a 505-yard, par 5.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,545 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,371 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 12, a par-5 that plays to 505 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 7, a par-3 that plays to 147 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 8, a 436 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 12, a 505 yard par-5.
