Detailed description
Oakwood Country Club is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Oakwood Country Club first opened for play in 1914. The course was rennovated by Dan Schlegel.

Oakwood Country Club has hilly fairways and fast greens. In addition, water hazards come into play on at least five holes, and sand bunkers have been strategically positioned throughout the course.

Oakwood Country Club plays to a 9-hole par-33 and a maximum 9-hole distance of 2,397 yards.

The Oakwood Country Club Golf Course closed in January 2008. The club closed the course without firm plans for the land.

Questions about the future of the golf course were answered in 2009 when it was announced that Oakwood Country Club had agreed to sell its golf course tract to a residential community developer.

The sale is expected to be worth $2.5 million to $3 million for the club.

According to the Lynchburg News Advance, the deal will help Oakwood CC pay off its debts. Developing a residential community on the former course is also anticipated to increase club membership.
