The uniqueness continues for a rural Redfield golf course.

The good folks of Fisher Grove Country Club have had to fight for their course in recent years due to flooding. Thanks to their hard work, the course has not only survived, but is now thriving with a new hole.

Fisher Grove has been an eight-hole course for the past two years because its ninth hole has been out of commission. Hole No. 9 is at the lowest point on the course and very close to the James River. Last year, it was decided to have a fundraiser to hopefully build a new hole and make some other improvements to the course.

Course board member Brett Knox said a very supportive club membership came through and raised enough money for the projects. The new hole is named Perm's Pointe.

The hole is named for Redfield and South Dakota baseball legend Kurt Permann.

Fisher Grove superintendent Chuck Halbert designed and built the new hole.

With No. 9 back in play and the new added hole, Fisher Grove now becomes a unique 10-hole golf course. There are plenty of 9- and 18-holes across the nation, but probably not many 10-hole courses.

“Kurt stepped forward to fund the majority of the new hole himself,” said Knox. “We look forward to going from an 8-hole to a 10-hole golf course!”
