Detailed description

Dolphin Head Golf Course is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Dolphin Head Golf Course first opened for play in 1974. The course was designed by Gary Player.

The front and back nine have different personalities. The front nine winds through tall trees with Player’s signature bunkers and marshland coming into play on most of the holes. The front nine plays short but puts a premium on hitting fairways and greens. The back nine offers a different look with open spaces and tall, old growth trees, giving Dolphin Head two very distinctive looks.

There's a great view of Port Royal Sound from the 14th hole and gusty winds that will even affect the back nine holes. But that’s not the only challenge! Water hazards on 13 holes and undulating greens redesigned by Clyde Johnston in the 1990s will test players’ putts.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,598 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,372 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 516 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 4, a par-3 that plays to 174 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 6, a 433 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 14, a 341 yard par-4.
