Detailed description

Winyah Bay Golf Club is a public 18-hole golf course located in Georgetown, South Carolina. Winyah Bay had the distinction of being the southernmost golf course that was considered part of the Grand Strand

The original nine opened in 1955 and is the fifth oldest golf course on the Grand Strand. As the original nine was being redesigned in 1998, another nine holes were added to the eighteen-hole courses inventory in the Myrtle Beach and Charleston areas.

Known as the "Gem on the Bay", this beautiful 18 hole, par 70 golf course is surrounded by 500-year-old oak trees and offers a great golfing challenge to everyone from the beginner to the expert.

Arriving at the clubhouse, the golfer is met with a seven-mile view of Winyah Bay, off a 35-foot bluff. Contour fairways wind through a plethora of massive oaks, tall pines, and thousand-year-old cypress trees, and eventually through gorgeous rice fields and marsh. With small undulating greens, fifty large sand traps, mixed with large trees and wetlands, and the fact that there is a constant breeze off the bay, you are set for a memorable round of golf.

Winyah Bay Golf Club closed in 2005. The property was converted to residential housing.
