Schuylkill Country Club can trace its history to 1905 when a club was formed in Pottsville as the "Outdoor Club of Pottsville". In 1919, the members of the "Outdoor Club of Pottsville" decided to purchase a scenic piece of property totaling 113 acres for $11,850,in Orwigsburg, PA. In 1921 they opened a 9-hole golf course on the location. This 9 holes course is the original 9-holes of the Schuylkill Country Club golf course They were built by Frank James at a cost of $20,700. In 1921, the course and clubhouse opened and the members officially moved from the Pottsville location to Orwigsburg. In the mid 1940's, Donald Ross was hired to design 9 new holes and redesign the original 9 holes. The result is 18 excellent golf holes which provide enjoyment and challenge for golfers of all ages and abilities.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6857 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5857 yards and plays to a par-73. The longest hole on the course is # 8, a par-5 that plays to 571 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 16, a par-3 that plays to 138 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 8, the 571 yard par-5 challenge is the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Schuylkill is # 16, the 138yard par-3.
