Detailed description

Running Y Ranch Resort, is a Resort 18 hole golf course located on the dry side of the Cascade Mountains in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

The course opened for play in 1997. The course was designed by Arnold Palmer, Ed Seay and Erik Larsen.

With an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course and lots of houses for sale, this remote resort is clearly geared toward the vacationer and golfers buying second homes. The land has been a cattle ranch for the last 100 years or so, and although 3,600 acres are slated for development, another 6,000 acres will remain as a working ranch. The architectural theme is out of the Wild West, including a clubhouse that features open trusses and high ceilings. The golf course is a parkland style course with pine tree lined fairways as well as more open meadows fairways bordered by wetlands. The course features five tees to choose from, all aiming at Palmer's trademark curvy and receptive fairways. Although many of the resort's 900 homes will be built along the course, they will be set back at least 40 yards and well out of play. The first four holes curl along the edge of Klamath Lake and its accompanying wetlands. Following the fifth hole the course disappears into tree-lined Payne Canyon, where it takes on a tougher feel. The back nine begins on open plains that are spotted with a couple water features and spectacular Scottish mounding. After the steep drop on #12, a 185-yard, par 3, the course winds back through the sage-scented canyon alongside a creek lined with hand-placed stones.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,133 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,842 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 10, a par-5 that plays to 552 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 5, a par-3 that plays to 147 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 6, a 432 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Running Y Ranch Resort is # 12, a 185 yard par-3.
