The original 18-hole course opened in 1936 is a Perry Maxwell design and the West Nine, added in 1992, is a Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw design.
In the first decade of this century, Southern Hills hosted the 2001 USGA Open Championship won by Retief Goosen, the 2007 PGA Championship won by Tiger Woods and the 2009 U.S. Amateur.
