Detailed description

Sunbury Golf Course is a Public, 9 hole golf course located in Sunbury, Ohio.

The course first opened in 1926.

This course was built on rolling terrain.  Most of the fairways are lined trees and bordered by a standard cut of rough. The average-sized greens are undulating, fast and putt true. Don't be fooled by this course's yardage, locals claim that precise shotmaking is necessary to score well here.

Par for the course is 35. From the back tees, the course plays to 3,075 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 2,895 yards. The longest holes on the course are # 1 and # 2, both par-5s that each play to 495 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 175 yards from the back tees.

The course closed in 2010.

Sunbury’s planning and zoning commission has paved the way for a single-family housing development on the former Sunbury Golf Course site.

The commission approved GCR Development’s application to rezone the nearly 68-acre property from planned recreational district to planned residential district.

Sunbury annexed the property from Berkshire Township in 2015. The golf course had been closed for years. Olympus Homes Inc. and Romanelli & Hughes Building Co. plan to put more than 100 homes on the site.
