Detailed description

Phoenix Golf Links, The, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Grove City, Ohio.

The Phoenix Golf Course first opened for play in 2000. The course was designed by Timothy P. Nugent.

This links-style course has three tee boxes per hole that vary both the distance and angle. The course feature almost 7,000 yards of manicured bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens. Along with wispy wild grasses and breezy conditions, it will make you feel as though you are playing right along the Scottish coast. Coupled with more than 80 bunkers, this 185-acre course has a fantastic view of the Columbus skyline.

Blue tees: 6,986 yards, course rating 71.7, slope rating 119.

White tees: 6,379 yards, course rating 68.8, slope rating 116.

Gold Tees: 5,365 yards, course rating 64.2, slope rating 107.

The course permanently closed in 2015.

The course was designed to protect the earthen cap over the landfill while creating a public amenity and raising money for the agency.

Methane gas has been leaking from a gas-collection system under the course. Both the property owner, Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO), and the golf course leasing company said the other was responsible for fixing the muti-million dollar problem, which landed the matter in court.

The result, the course ended back in the hands of the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO). It will be less expensive to correct the problem and maintain the property if also maintaining a course is not required. Accordingly, the course will not remain open, and course features will be removed to reduce maintenance costs.
