Detailed description

Valley of the Eagles Golf Course is a semi-private 18-hole golf course located just 25 miles west of downtown Cleveland in Elyria, Ohio.

The course was built on land that was from 1926-2013 had been Spring Valley Country Club.

Valley of the Eagles opened for play in August 2018. The course was completely redesigned by a team from Jack Nicklaus design.

The golf course plays to a par of 72 and plays to a maximum distance of 6,941 yards. The course winds through the Black River Valley’s sheer black-shale cliffs and along the Black River, with mature elm, oak and ash trees lining the fairways.

Nearly every hole is new, though certain spots and shots bring back memories.

#1 tee box is elevated. It’s a 335 yard par-4 from the blue tees (the second-longest of five sets) and doglegs sharply to the right. The Black River borders the right side of the fairway.

# 2 is  par-5 with elevated tees and doglegs left.

# 5 is a long par-3 playing to 276 yards from the tips over water and sand to an elevated green.

#s 11-18 run along the Black River. Thousands of trees were removed and the open look is obvious on the 426-yard 12th, where a cliff can be seen behind the green.

#14 is a 344-yard par 4. The tee is on an island in the Black River, and the golfer must play over a bank to the fairway. The approach is about 100 yards back to the left to a small island green.

#17 brings the river more into play. It sets up a strong finisher.

#18 is a par 5 that plays 512 yards from the blue tees. The green is shallow, two-tiered and sits behind water. The longer hitters will have to decide whether it’s worth going for in two, and even a layup to the perfect yardage will still be intimidating.
