Detailed description

Firestone Country Club is a Private, 54 hole golf facility located in Akron, Ohio.

Established in 1929 by Harvey Firestone and later acquired by ClubCorp in 1981, Firestone Country Club remains a one of a kind golf facility. It is the only course in the world to have held three televised golf events in one calendar year, -The American Golf Classic, The CBS Golf Classic, and The World Series of Golf. With its three championship level courses, Firestone Country Club is as unique today as it has ever been.

The words Firestone South can conjure up fond memories for many golf fans. Few will forget Jack Nicklaus's magnificent comeback in the 1975 PGA Championship. Down by 5 strokes to Bruce Crampton, Nicklaus made an unbelievable par on the "Monster" 16th hole. He continued his comeback to win by four strokes, collecting his 4th PGA Championship. A more recent memory might be from the 2000 World Golf Championships-NEC Invitational, where Tiger Woods hit the now famous "shot in the dark" on the 18th hole to secure his victory in the event.

SOUTH COURSE  __________

The South Course, which is a traditional design, annually hosts the PGA Tour's NEC World Series of Golf. "Golf Digest" rated this as the 11th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and 12th best for 1997-98. In addition, "GOLF Magazine" ranked it 56th among the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." for 1995, 63rd in 1997 and 91st in 1999. "GOLFWEEK" awarded it 56th in the category of "America's 100 Best Classical Courses" for 1997, 57th for 1998 and 72nd for 1999. The South Course opened in 1929. The South Course was designed by Bert Way. Robert Trent Jones redesigned the South Course in 1959, followed by Jack Nicklaus in 1986.

NORTH COURSE  __________

The North Course at Firestone with its beautiful lakes and streams played host to the 1976 American Golf Classic and the 1994 World Series of Golf. The course first opened for play in 1969. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.

WEST COURSE  __________

The latest addition to the Firestone was the West Course. Opened in 1989. The West course was designed by Geoffrey Cornish & Brian Silva, and redesigned by Tom Fazio in 2002, this course together with the North and South courses make the Firestone Country Club family complete.
