Detailed description

Rockwood Community Links was built on the site of the Ocotillo Park Golf Course, Rockwood is a Public, 27 hole golf facility located in Hobbs, New Mexico. The facility has an 18-hole regulation course and a 9-hole par-3 course.

Rockwood Community Links first opened for play in 2015,

Rockwood regulation course is a new layout with only one hole from the old course. The natural terrain is flat, but the course architect, Andy Staples, made use of mounding, hollowed-out areas, and elevated greens to add depth and interest. The course routing takes advantage of the wind. Six fairways play into the wind, six downwind, and 3 in crosswinds each way.

The course has five sets of tees with lengths ranging from 7,100 from the tips down to approximately 4,100 for the forward “express” tees. Par for everyday play is 72 but can be adjusted to 71 or 73 depending on the course set up. The fairways will be expansive and mown tight around the greens and bunkers which will give the player a true sense of the short game necessary in links golf. The layout of the course also pays specific attention to the differences in how the single-digit handicapper plays the course compared to the average player. In most instances, the aggressive line appears to the player as the preferred line of play. However, if this line is taken, the player may find an awkward stance, a downhill lie to an uphill green, or a more heavily bunkered green. The player whose normal shot favors a high fade to the right will most times find himself with a more preferred line, a better view to the green, or a more desirable stance.
