Detailed description

West Shore Golf & Country Club is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Grosse Ile, Michigan.

West Shore Golf & Country Club first opened for play in 1908 and was originally named Island Country Club. The course was designed by George B. Ferry.

During World War II the course was closed.

Additional properties were purchased in the early 1980s along Ferry Road for future improvement of the golf course and to add protection to the Club's perimeter on the south boundary. One immediate improvement on the course after the acquisition was to lengthen and widen the existing teeing areas on several holes, re-measuring the course, and establishing a par 70 course for men based upon yardage guidelines adopted by the USGA.

In late 1987, the course was renovated. The work included the relocation of #12 and #17 tees and new greens for holes 3, 4, 11, 15, and 17. Par was changed from 70 to 71. Today the course, from the back tees, plays to 6623 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5826 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 17, a par-5 that plays to 527 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 12, a par-3 that plays to 136 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 6, a 401 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at West Shore Golf & Country Club is # 14, a 229 yard par-3.

West Shore Golf & Country Club has very difficult par 4's. The tree-lined fairways were built on rolling terrain but without any elevation changes. Some of the greens are multi-tiered and undulating. A creek meanders through the course that comes into play a couple of times.
