Detailed description of Cape Cod Country Club

Cape Cod Country Club is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in North Falmouth, Massachusetts

Cape Cod Public Golf Course opened in 1915. The course was designed by Devereaux Emmet and Al Tull.

On the borders of Coonamessett Pond, the course was laid out with an interesting variety of undulating fairways and subtly-sloped greens wandering through a landscape with charming vistas of lakes and woods. Once you get over our few big hills, you'll enjoy an otherwise fairly flat layout. In the grand tradition of architects Devereaux Emmet and Al Tull, the undulating greens and tees are unique. You'll also enjoy the views of the Coonamessett Pond these men planned for. The signature hole is number 9, a par-3 over water that's a thrill every time you play it!

The 6,429-yard layout is wonderfully enjoyed by golfers of all skill levels. They served as the home of three USGA Massachusetts Opens and are the annual host of the Cape Cod Senior Open Golf Tournament. Cape Cod is open to the public, and seasonal membership passes make play even more of a bargain.

This course was recommened by the staff at Woods Hole CC as one that you MUST play before leaving this area. We got the Twilight rate of $28 for 18/cart because it was after 2pm, which was nice. This is a treelined rolling layout that has great seperation between holes even though you can see the other fairways. Having four (4) tee selections from 6,185yds / 70.8 / 132 down to 5,112yds / 70.2 / 122 it offers one choices in making it playable for all levels on this Par 36/35 layout. One might think that playing from the Blues/Tips at 6,185yds may be short, but let me assure you its long on 2nd shots to some 2-3 extra club elevated greens. Tee boxes were in very good shape with clearly viewed fairway landing areas with 150yd sticks located in the middle of the fairway. Greens were a good mix of undulation and being well protected by deep edged fluffy sand traps. The Front 9's #2 hole a 206yd elevated Par 3 was playing 218yds to carry the front sand bunker so laying up and one (1) putt worked out good. The Hcp 1 hole is #4 and at 437yds, uphill, treelined narrow to a elevated green, is one tough Par 4. The #6 a 507yd Par 5 starts with a 210yd dogleg right tee shot with two (2) inside corner sand traps to catch those taking the short cut. The #9 is a short 156yd Par 3 with water carry to the rightsige to a tough undulating green. The #11 Hcp 5 is a sweeping left and narrow 542yd Par 5 with sand traps well placed for all three (3) shots to this tucked in green. The #13 Par 5 is short at 449yds but with the green elevated 80' with a steep face, you're either on or short trying to get home in two. The #14 is a 360yd Par 4 that protects it's Hcp 2 rating by placing the small narrow green on a 50' deep grassy pinnacle. This is where a 58 degree wedge on the side hill lie, can hit you in the grill or back into the fairway. The last two (2) holes are short Par 4's at 281yds and 295yds but playing for the 100-120yds 2nd shot will land you on a flat area. Enjoyed playing at this well maintained old course and shooting 41/39 w/30putts. (8 one putts) The sad side story to this course is that there is a proposal to turn it into a "Solar Farm". Cutting down this wooded area and putting up solar panels seems to challenge saving "Green Space" for "Free Energy". I hope this golf course can win the battle of sell out verses maintaining a beautiful 93 year old course.

Course is not very welcoming to women golfers. Very poor restroom facilities for both men and women golfers. Staff is friendly and the pace of play is decent most days of the week. Food service is good but the Clubhouse is old and needs work.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area

Nice layout with good elevation changes. Some greens are small and require accurate approach shots. Friendly staff, good fairway and green conditions.

This course has had $$ put into improvements for a few years now and it's showing. The fairways are better than ever, The greens are fast for a public course but not unfair. The largest lack is a driving range which aside from to real warm ups means the pro shop can't really carry a good array of clubs...

Played on a rainy day and pretty much had the course to ourselves. Sand in bunkers was a little hard, but fairways were in good condition and we enjoyed the experience.
