Detailed description

GreatHorse, previously named Hampden Country Club, is a Private 18-hole golf course located in Hampden, Massachusetts.

Hamden golf course first opened for play in 1973. The course was designed by Al Zikorus.

Hampden was purchased at auction in 2012. Brian Silva was hired to redesign the course which reopened in 2015 as GreatHorse.

Since buying the 18-hole course at auction, the Antonaccis have spent $45 million on the grand vision of a golf destination — one complete with flashy art and handsomely appointed lounges.

“The ultimate goal would be to have a US Open or very large professional event,” said Guy Antonacci, president of the club that his father and uncle, Jerry and Frank Antonacci, bought for $1.4 million in 2012. Guy was 25 when the course was purchased.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,323 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,496 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 8, a par-5 that plays to 615 Yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 15, a par-3 that plays to 127 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 2, a 583 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 15, a 127 yard par-3.

At GreatHorse, dramatic elevation changes produce a challenging golf course with spectacular vistas. Seven holes wander along the base of Goat Hill with gorgeous sunsets and views to the west. The other 11 holes meander through open meadows crossing brooks and ponds to create an interesting variety of approaches. The views, the natural wetlands and the landscape offer a wonderful setting for a championship golf course. Players of all skill levels will enjoy this course.

The men’s course rating is the highest in the Bay State at 77.2 with slope reading 140.
