Detailed description of Stonebridge Golf Course

Stonebridge Country Club, is a Semi-Private, open to the public, 27 hole golf course located in Gretna, Louisiana.

This course originally opened in 1984 with an 18 hole championship course and a 9-hole executive course. The course architect was Jeff Cornish.

In 2004 the courses received a twelve and a half million dollar re-design by John F. Robinson. The course is the only true links-style course in the greater New Orleans area. Each of the three 9 hole courses is named after Jazz Greats. There is the Louis Armstrong-9, Pete Fountain-9 and Al Hirt-9.

This 27-hole layout showcases the canals & bayous, reptiles & waterfowl that characterize this unique New Orleans golf experience. Stonebridge has over 100 sand traps that protect pristine fairways and large, undulating greens. Players can adjust their skill level to the golf course by choosing from any of our six sets of tees. While water hazards can come into play on most holes, there are very few forced carries, which further highlights the playability of Stonebridge for golfers of all skill levels.

Quick overview: 27 Championship Holes; 6 Sets of Tees on Armstrong/Fountain Nines: 5 Sets of Tees on Hirt Nine; Over 100 Sand Bunkers; Largest Greens in Greater New Orleans; Carts equipped with Pro Link GPS

Greens fee's: $70 per person includes tax & 1/2 cart

I was furprised by the condition of the course because I had not played it in several years. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape. Although the area had been in drought conditions they were doing an excellent job with their sprinkler system. The only negative I have about it was that several of the fairway bunkers were in deplorable condition lacking the beach type sand that was in the traps around the greens.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level

This is my local course, closest to my home (about 1/2 mile), so I am biased as to whether I woud drive far to play it...

The normal rate is $40 on weekdays, $50 on weekends; the $25 was a nine hole rate.

This course is tougher than the 127 slope it gets due to excessive amounts of OB. Lots of water, sand, and houses too. Not for the hacker who sprays a lot of shots, but overall not a bad course.

It is among the few courses in this price range in the New Orleans area (about 15-20 minutes from downtown) and the price is about the max you wouldd want to play for the course; however the layout is decent and the course is nice. Currently, frequent changes in our weather have made it hard to keep up with, so it is not in top shape - especially the greens which are hairy and have some disease on a few - but it is still worth the play.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
