Detailed description of Hesston Municipal Golf Park

Hesston Municipal Golf Park is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Hesston, Kansas.

Hesston Municipal Golf Park first opened for play in 1976. The course was designed by Frank Hummel.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6,542 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,829 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 5, a par-5 that plays to 548 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 17, a par-3 that plays to 186 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 5, a 548 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 17, a 186 yard par-3.

This short course has a number of difficult holes. Water comes into play on several holes.  Most of the fairways are tree lined and bordered by a standard cut of rough. The course has a number of signature holes.

One of their "signature holes" is #5, a par-4 challenge. #5 is a dog-leg left with a significant elevation change to the putting surface. Cut off too much of the dogleg on your tee shot, and you could end up in the pond or out of bounds. Long hitters with the benefit of added length from the tee, and are left with a long approach to a very elevated and small green. Par is a fantastic score from here.

The real signature at Hesston Golf Course is the collective group of par threes. Depending on the wind and your length, driver off the tee isn't unheard of. There are long-time players at Hesston who say that they've hit everything from an 8-iron to a driver on the par threes here and that's not hard to believe.

If the long par 3's or Middle Emma Creek haven't taken their toll on you through the first 17 holes, never fear; Hesston leaves the best for last with the demanding #18, a par-5. The closing hole offers Kansas' only Church Pew Bunker. The bunker stretches 75 yards in length. At 415 yards from the gold tees and 520 yards from the blacks, its certainly not the longest par 5 but beware, it does provide quite the challenge.
