Detailed description of Urbandale Golf & Country Club

Urbandale Golf & Country Club is a Private, 9 hole golf course located in Urbandale, Iowa.

Urbandale Golf & Country Club first opened for play in 1965.

This is a beautiful tree-lined course. The greens are small and fast. Several water hazards come into play throughout the course. This was the 2016 9-Hole Golf Course of the Year

Hole-By-Hole Description

#1 (345-yard par-4) Nice starting hole. A dogleg to the left with an elevated green. Trouble left of the trees. Right center fairway is desirable. Hit enough club for your second shot. Don’t hit through the fairway.

#2 (547-yard, par 5) Your drive needs to be on the left side of the fairway. Trees right and left, native area to the right. Lay up area short of the creek is at the bottom of the hill at the 150-yard pole. Big hitters can try to go over the creek in two. Most players will have a downhill second shot. Third shot to the elevated green which is one of the deepest on the course.

#3 (382-yard, par-4) Straight away par 4 with Out of Bounds to the right. Trees are to the left. Left center is the desirable spot to set up your next shot. Narrow green with a bunker behind the green. Better to be short than long over this green.

#4 (160-yard par-3) Well guarded with bunkers short, right and left. Better to use one more club than normal as green is elevated and deep.

#5 (374-yard par-4) Straight away with an elevated tee and elevated green. Wide fairway with the second shot on an up-slope to the green. Use more club for your second shot as the green is severely elevated. A high second shot will help on this hole to stop on this crowned green.

#6 (317-yard, par-4) Short but dangerous. Dogleg left and steep slope to the right. A fairway wood off the tee is the desirable shot as a short shot into this crowned green is needed. Bunkers left and right provide a small opening to this crowned green. Green has many undulations which make putting a challenge.

#7 Best par 4 on the golf course, measures 397 yards. Elevated tee to a flat landing area at the bottom of the hill. Trees left and right. Tee shot needs to be center or left-center in the fairway. Green is severely elevated over a creek. A high shot is required so take more club. Anything short will come back down the hill front of the green. Wide but narrow green.

#8 (445-yard, par-5) Short but interesting Par 5. Fairway slopes to the left giving players a difficult lie for the second shot. The ideal spot off the tee is to the right side of the fairway. Long hitters will try to get to the green in 2, but a nice landing flat area about 100 to 140 yards out from the green will be desired for most. Severe green, try to stay below the hole.

#9 (130-yard, par-3) Interesting and a fun hole to finish. 2 greens are used, one for the front 9 and one for the back 9, before Memorial Day Weekend and after Labor Day Weekend. You must carry water on both holes too difficult greens to putt. Always use enough club, and a high shot is desired. Try to stay below the hole as above usually ends up as a three-putt.
