Detailed description of Fresh Meadow Golf Course

Fresh Meadow Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Hillside, Illinois.

The course dates to 1918. William Langford redesigned then original course in 1927, followed by Ray Didier in 1956.

The course is Parkland in style with water in play on four holes. There are 34 greenside bunkers. The greens are push-up style, fairly large and sloped.

Par for the course is 70. From the back tees the course plays to 6,276 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,491 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 475 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 136 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 7, a 440 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Fresh Meadow Golf Course is # 14, a 325 yard par-4.

In addition to the golf course, there is a heated, lighted Learning Center that is open year round. There are two seasonal practice bunkers and chipping greens and a large practice putting green. William Langford redesigned then original course in 1927, followed by Ray Didier in 1956.

Maintenance of the course, especially the greens, left something to be desired. Previous hole locations were not well repaired. Great price though ($29 with a cart) and pace of play was good.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

Played here 8-9-14 while in the area for a reunion. Tee times were set up by reunion Coordinator: this course would not have been my choice.

I thought $49 was a little pricey for the round, even on a weekend, on what is essentiallly a flat, relatively featureless coure. Only the length of the par 4's makes it at all difficult, as there are at least five at or over 400 yards. There's also a 202 yard par-3! Layout is reasonable, although some tee boxes are a little close to adjacent greens, so be alert for "Fore" calls.

Very mature trees, as the course dates from the 1920's. Tee boxes are not elevated, just mowed differently than the fairway. No rough to speak of, just the same grass, mowed a bit higher. Greens are medium-sized, fairly flat, and some have crowns. Bunkers front nearly every green, and some are quite large.

Conditions today were OK: fairways were pretty good, greens were too, with a few exceptions where there were some burned spots. Bunkers were not good: several were partially flooded and others were unduly firm.

Play was pretty slow: we started at 0700 and didn't finish unti 1215 after waiting for EVERY shot. No Ranger to be seen.

Overall, a fairly ordinary course with nothing special to note except the staff, which was very friendly and welcoming, and made an effort to let us know we were appreciated. Special Attaboy to Steve the starter and to Jim, the 81-year old "Cart Boy." Two very delightful gentlemen.

I don't live in the area, but two of our group were local, and they considered Fresh Meadow kind of a "typical" area course. If so, be warned!

Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area

The clubhouse staff and rangers are rude and unhelpful. They act as if it is a privilege to play this course. Believe me when I say, it is not. I have played many other public courses that respect their patrons and treat them as if if they appreciate their business and would like to see them return. Fresh Meadow does not fall into that category.
