Governors Run Golf & Country Club is a Public 36 hole golf facility located 2 miles nort-east of Carlyle, Illinois. The facility has two 18-hole courses, The Championship Course and an The Par-3 Course.
The Championship Course opened in 1994 followed by The Par-3 course that opened in 1995. Bothe courses were designed by Donald Horrell.
The Championship Course __________
The Championship Course was designed with the Scottish links-style in mind. Its front nine affords generous landing areas in the fairways, but its back nine has extremely narrow fairways. The large greens are elevated and undulating, and every one is guarded by sand bunkers. In addition, ponds come into play on fourteen holes. The signature hole is #17, a 369-yard, par 4, featuring a covered bridge that crosses over one of the water hazards. Nearby Carlyle Lake is famous for being the largest land-locked lake in the state, attracting 4.5 million visitors each year.
Par for The Championship Course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,013 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,570 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 7, a par-5 that plays to 565 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 9, a par-3 that plays to 151 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 15, a 421 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 1, a 406 yard par-4.
Green tees: par-72, 7,013 yards

The Par-3 Course __________

The 18-hole Par-3 Course plays to a par-54 and maximum distance of 1,939 yards.

The zoysia fairways (3 cut) were great and the greens are exceptional. One of the nicer 'feeling' course I have been on for a while. Great experience, gets little play which may be its demise...so if you get a chance to play it...DO!
