Detailed description

Great Neck Country Club, (up to 2012 named New London Country Club), is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Waterford, Connecticut. New ownership changed the name and the course and club have gone through a complete transformation, with more than 3 million dollars invested in the rejuvenation of the facilities (2012).

The course first opened for play in 1926. The course was designed by Charlie Brooks.

The club was founded in 1925 when a parcel of farmland large enough for a golf course became available on Lamphere Road in Waterford. The site is made up of gently, rolling terrain that was once farmland. The Board asked Charlie Brooks, who had apprenticed as a youth at Royal Lytham, St. Anne's, Lancashire, England, and was the greens-keeper and Golf Professional at Old Lyme Golf Club, to design and oversee construction. Under the direction of Mr. Brooks, the front 9 was finished in 1926. In 1952, three new holes were built, making 12 in all. The final 6 holes were added in 1956.

This sporty course was designed with small fast greens, a flat terrain, and mature oaks and pines lining its fairways.  There are some ponds that come into play on a few holes.  All the greens are well bunkered.
