Race Brook Country Club is a Private, 27 hole golf course facility located in Orange, Connecticut. This club has two courses, they are: The Chapionship 18 Hole Course and The O'Sullivan 9 Hole Course.
The Chapionship 18 Hole Course opened on July 14, 1913 on the original 145 acres owned by the club. The course was designed by Robert D. Pryde, a native of Scotland, a course architect and the first coach of the Yale University golf team
On September 23, 1926 another 18 holes were opened on the additional 125 acres purchased in 1924, making Race Brook Country Club the first 36-hole country club in New England. While the club closed the second 18 holes during WWII, after the war ended and membership levels rebounded, the club reopened 9 holes in 1951 now known as The O'Sullivan 9 Hole Course
The Chapionship 18 Hole Course is the more popular of the two with its tree-lined and narrow fairways. The Nine Hole Course is not as challenging, so it's great for beginners. The mildly rolling terrain is easy to walk. Both courses are well maintained.
In addition to hosting the 2012 Connecticut State Amateur, for a fifth time, Race Brook has served as the venue for: five Senior Amateurs; six State Opens; one State Mid-Amateur; one State Four-Ball Championship; the 2004 New England Amateur Championship and the 2006 Russell C. Palmer Stroke-Play Championship.
Throughout the one hundred year tenure of its rich history, Race Brook Country Club has been the site of some dramatic exhibition matches between prominent players, such as Harry Vardon and Ted Ray; Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan; Patty Berg, Pat O’Sullivan, Charlie Clare and Eddie Burke.
