Detailed description

Sonnenalp Resort of Vail is a Resort 18 hole golf course located in Edwards, Colorado.

The Sonnenalp Resort Golf course first opened for play in 1980. The course was designed by Bob Cupp.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 7059 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5293 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 1, a par-5 that plays to 611 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 158 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 3, a 467 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Sonnenalp is # 14, a 180 yard par-3. The signature hole is #17, a 199-yard, par 3, which is known for its heavily-bunkered green.

Sonnenalp Golf Club is perfectly located in the sun drenched valley of Edwards, 13 miles west of Vail Village. This down valley location gives members and guests an extended playing season stretching from early April to late October. The course is an open, links type of layout through the valley with some elevation change. The course is routed through and around open meadows, streams and sagebrush lined fairways. Great conditioning, enjoyable to play, a little on the expensive side. This is a links-style course with each hole lined with homes and out-of-bounds stakes. The back nine is much more hilly than the front nine. The signature hole is #17, a 199-yard, par 3, which is known for its heavily-bunkered green. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 5th "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996, and as the 13th "Best in State" course for 1995-96. They also ranked it 53rd among the "Top 75 Resort Courses" for 1992. The Sonnenalp Golf Academy is located on the premises.

Sonnenalp Golf Club has been recognized by Golf Digest magazine in their "Top 100 Resort Courses" and consistently ranks as one of the state's top three courses in Colorado Golf Magazine.
