Detailed description

Phoenix Lake Golf Course is a Public, 9 hole golf course located in Sonora, California.

Phoenix Lake Golf Course first opened for play in 1968. The course was designed by Bert Stamps.

The course has narrow fairways and many oak trees. Sullivan Creek comes into play on a number of holes. The signature hole is #3, a par 3 that plays to 180 yards, requiring an uphill tee shot over a dangerous creek and through a 40-yard gap of tall trees to reach the green.

The course plays to a 9-hole par-35 and 2,711 yards from the men’s tees. There are also ladies tees and alternate tee locations for those playing a double loop 18-hole round.

The course closed on October 1, 2019.

As of the closing date, the course remains on the market at a reported asking price of $1.8 million dollars. The owners are maintaining the course in the hopes that the buyers will continue using the property as a golf course.

The course closing will have an impact. Since 2014 Phoenix Lake Golf Course has allowed all local high school golf team members to play and practice free and has also has hosted Special Olympics golf athletes to learn, practice, and play golf before traveling to Special Olympics competitions.

In addition, since 2015, Phoenix Lake Golf Course has been the First Tee venue for First Tee of Central Valley.
