Best Course in Coastal California. Test your A game here. Fun, very fair, and worth traveling to play here. It is a long drive for all but locals, but worth the drive. Frequently used as a US Open Qualifier and for many Amateur events. Great practice area. Pace of play good and affordable.

This course perfectly captures the terrain of Santa Barbara County as the fairways follow the canyons up one side and down the other. Its somewhat remote location (remote for Southern California, that is) insures a very casual day on the course...not the sort of place you'd find hordes of impatient golfers lining up to race through, breathing down your neck. For me, an important part of the experience is being able to absorb the natural beauty of a course as I play, and La Purisima is near the top of my list.

Played the RED tees in a club tournament. At 5763 yds par 72 a cakewalk? Hardly. Play an iron off the tee, you still have to stripe it and have to pick your target on the greens. Hit driver and try to shorten it up, have to be very accurate, for trouble lies ahead for wayward shots. And you still have to putt the superbly conditioned but undulating greens. So play from any set of tees and you will be challenged. Hit your lines off the tee within reason, and strike your approaches as pure as you can, and you will be rewarded! Good Luck.

La Purisima is truly a championship course at "blue collar" prices. Every hole is unique and has character on its own. One can challenge the course from the black tees, and when it is windy even the best players will be struggling to break eighty. But "La Pure" plays like a different course from every set of tees. From the regulation tees, different hazards come into play, and even from the red tees, one can have a great time on almost every hole making extremely scary risk reward decisions. The greens are always smooth and fast, and putting will be challenging once you've made it on the green. In all, La Purisima in my mind ranks among the top ten courses I've played in the world.

This course is tough. It doesn't matter how many times you have played it, but that is what makes it great. The condition of the course is always excellent and plush. The greens are challenging and the layout almost sets up as a links type course. You must play smart to set up shots, it is not a grip it and rip it playground. It challenges you mentally and physically. It is a treat to play and I think one of the best courses from LA to SF.

This is the best course between Santa Barbara and Salinas. If you're a golfer who has never quite understood how course design can test your game, head to La Pu. Play early to learn the subtleties of this great design; play late if you think your game is ready for anything. The wind comes up in the afternoon. The greens are a treat--they were rolling about 11 1/2 when I was last there and it's entirely possible to putt a ball off the green. This is not a course for beginners but there is no better place for someone to test their game and study great course design.

La Purisima is a pure Golf experience. A real challange for the best of golfers. Once a year there is a tournament with the course at its most difficult, long rough, fast greens and the hardest possible pin placements. It will humble the best of players. I recommend that high handicappers (18 & up) bring extra balls and play from the white tees. You still won't regret it. Mid handicappers should play from the white tees until you get a feel for the course and bring extra balls. Low handicappers - your on your own. Have fun

A very tough test - will examine every aspect of your game. Extremely beautiful to look at. Condition in April/09 was just a hair ragged around the edges, but overall by far the best course for 80 miles in any direction (and that includes Sandpiper in Santa Barbara). When value for money is taken into account, it's without question the best course for 200 miles in any direction. If you dislike playing in serious wind, avoid the afternoons, as the wind tends to kick up after noon.
