About Tubac Golf Resort

Tubac Golf Resort, is a Resort, 27 hole golf course located in Tubac, Arizona.

Tubac Golf Resort has three 9-hole golf courses. These courses can be combined in pairs to form three different 18 hole course challenges. The nine-hole courses are The Anza Nine, The Rancho Nine, and The Otero Nine.

Tubac Golf Resort opened in 1959. The original course (18-holes) was designed by Red Lawrence. An additional 9-holes were added in 2006. The new nine as well as course rennovation was designed by Kevin Kavanaugh.

Tubac Golf Resort & Spa is filled with great history. It was opened over 50 years ago. Bing Crosby was a member of the ownership group. The Tubac Golf Resort & Spa dates back to 1789 when it was a cattle ranch. The property spans the ages in every way, from its 200 year-old Otero House and ranch buildings of which many still exist, to it modern - day revision. The Number 4 hole known as the Tin Cup hole probably gets the most acclaim, as it served as one of the movie sets for 1996 golf flick starring Kevin Costner, Rene Russo, and Cheech Marin.

This tranquil retreat nestled between the Santa Rita Mountains and Tumacacori Mountains has never looked better. All 27 hole lie between beatiful sceneries with cottonwood trees, mesquite groves, and green hillsides.

Otero Nine: Tubac's original front nine, named after the Otero family who established the Otero Ranch in 1789, is classic with beautiful bentgrass greens hopscotched among stately cottonwoods and mesquite groves. No. 9 of the Otero has been shortened some 100 yards to a short par-4. The challenge is to avoid a huge lake that runs down most of the left side and in front of the green.

Rancho Nine: Named for the owners of Tubac's golf club in Cave Creek, the Rancho Nine includes the fourth "Tin Cup" hole. This nine is also home to the infamous "Tubac Triangle," a perilous three-hole stretch that will put even the most talented players to the test. Aptly named "Train Wreck," the 651 yard eighth hole can test the mettle of the most accomplished professionals. Any golfer whose ball lands on a cow pie on the starting hole may refer to the local rule printed on the scorecard stating, "Ball landing on cow pie: pick, lick, and place no closer to the hole!"

Anza Nine: Named after Juan Bautista De Anza, the Anza Nine starts with five brand-new holes then finishes with what were formally our 10th, 11th & 18th. The tricky par-3 ninth hole with its island green, which is reminiscent of the 17th at TPC Sawgrass.

The 18-hole championship course combinations play to either a par-71, or par-72 and can measure as much as 6,870 yards.

While visiting friends in nearby Green Valley, we played this course first off at 7 am and finished in 3 hours. On about 1/3 of the holes the course winds between homes and the resort but the homes do not seem too close to the fairway. But, OB looms on several holes. A good number of lakes and doglegs that utilize the large cottonwood trees. This course can be score-able but you probably need to play it once to know where to place your tee shots. Nice greens and bunkers. Wanted to play the "Tin Cup" hole but unfortunately that nine was closed for overseeding. When you visit, you will recognize some of the backdrops and structures seen in the movie. I will return as the course is fun and the staff is very pleasant.
