Detailed description

Las Posas Country Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Camarillo, California.

Designed by Lawrence Hughes, this par-71 course opened in January of 1958, the golf course is located in the Las Posas Valley, a green belt of farms and lemon trees that stretch northward to South Mountain. On a clear day, the Topa Mountains are visible in the distance.

Estate homes and a variety of trees--pine and eucalyptus among others--line many of the fairways. In sport's parlance, those trappings narrow the playing field for a course that appears deceptively easy, only 6,377 yards from the back tees. However, seven holes (3, 5, 8, 12, 15, 16, 17) can present problems for the long hitter, and wayward drive can easily cross one of the imaginary lines drawn by the out-of-bounds stakes located on both sides of their fairways.

This rustic, course is woven into the terrain, threading its way through a valley to finish around a hill.

Las Posas presents two different nines to the golfer. The front nine winds through a portion of the Las Posas Valley, while the second nine encircles a small hill counterclockwise, starting with 10, ascending steeply from 11, the high point is reached, a magnificent view then commands attention. Once past the dogleg on 16, it's a gentle descent to the clubhouse below, except, for the challenge on 17.

#2 is the signature, short par three over water that requires a very good shot to the green.

#12, a par five is a 90 degree dogleg left and requires a lay-up off the tee you want to attempt a sweeping hook. A bell system is used to alert the group behind when you clear the hole.

Hollywood celebrities Dinah Shore, Pete Carpenter, Dick Martin, and Alvino Rey, all former members, once negotiated the Las Posas fairways -- as occasionally do PGA professional Corey Pavin and sports legends Dick Butkus and Elgin Baylor.
