Birch Hills Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Brea, California.
Birch Hills Golf Course first opened for play in 1972. The course was designed by Harry and David Rainville. The course closed in 2014 for rennovations. Ths course is being redesigned and upgraded as part of the La Floresta multi-generational, mixed-use master-planned community.
The course rennovation is being handled by Newport Beach-based architect Casey O’Callaghan
Significant changes have been made to seven holes, with as much as 80 per cent of the site completely reshaped. Once completed, Birch Hills will be a beautiful, fun, and playable executive golf course with a par of 59 and a length of 3,100 yards. This is slightly shorter than the pre-renovation length.
The par-three, #2 will be a reverse redan hole and the #7 will be a driveable par-four that can be attacked straight on through a narrow gap in the bunkering or hit a draw shot over a fairway bunker that splits the fairway and will reward a successful carry by feeding the tee shot down toward the green.

Birch Hills is an 18 hole Executive course. It has 5 par 4's and 13 par 3's for a Par of 59. From what I understand, it closed, then reopened. While it's mostly Par 3's and some short Par 4's (3 you can actually drive the green), the greens are a bit tricky and most holes play longer or shorter than their stated length. You can get through a round in less than 4 hours ... and that's on an extremely busy day. I've played it in less than 3 a few times, and I've shot my age (60) once. It's a goal of mine each time I play it.

The course is closing for renovation from March 1 2011 through November 1, 2011. This has been a great course to learn to play golf, practice your short game and if you play in the late afternoon it's dirt cheap. The staff has always been friendly and accomodating. Great breakfast burritos!

Good course for practicing your short game. Greens are not particularly challenging. Back nine a bit longer.
