Detailed description of Generals Ridge Golf Course

Generals Ridge Golf Course, previously named Manassas Park Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Manassas Park, Virginia.

Generals Ridge Golf Course first opened for play in 1996. The course was designed by Jerry Slack.

General's Ridge Golf Course has long been a favorite of players from the DC area. Although located just a short drive south of the nation's capital, the General's Ridge setting feels like a nature preserve where deer and foxes are often glimpsed along the tree-lined fairways. The surprisingly hilly layout features several challenging doglegs and the 4th hole offers a memorable elevation drop of nearly 200 feet from tee to green. No. 12 and No. 15 both have water in play, while the par-4 16th hole is considered one of the toughest in the region because of its tight fairway and the ravine that must be carried to reach the green. The short par four at No. 18 offers a chance for redemption if your shot to the small elevated green is true.

Par for the course is 70. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,651 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,731 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 4, a par-5 that plays to 537 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 159 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 16, a 404 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at General Ridge is # 1, a 363 yard par-4.

A brutal layout.Course management a must.Use all 14 clubs.Bring several balls.Very demanding shot making.Greens are too fast, needs more grass.Pin placement with fast greens,unfair..Hard walking. Not for the faint of heart or mediocre golfer.Very tireing if your out of shape.Overall, its a incredible course, but needs some attention to detail.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level

Generals Ridge is a difficult layout, with thick rough lining the fairways and greens. Being accurate off the tee and from the fairway is less than half the battle, because the greens have extreme slopes and a missed putt can put you two or three times the distance from the hole from where you started.

Courses with trick layouts are never high in my book, and this course is worse than most. The only positive factor is the price, which is lower than most courses in the Northern Virginia area. If you are willing to put up with constantly hacking out of the rough and having your ball roll off the green with a missed put, the price is right.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
