Detailed description

Mount Mitchell Golf Club is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Burnsville, North Carolina.

The Mount Mitchell Golf Club golf course first opened for play in 1975. England's Frederick W. Hawtree designed the eighteen holes. The only other American course by this English golf architect is New Jersey's Links Golf Club. However, throughout the British Isles and on the European continent he was one of the most respected figures in golf course architecture during the second half of the 20th century, designing or remodeling, in partnership with his father and son, more than 300 courses throughout the world, including Royal Birkdale, near Liverpool, where the British Open is played periodically.

The Mount Mitchell Golf Club has been rated four and a half stars (out of five) by Golf Digest Magazine. It is a player-friendly course, with no blind shots and scenery that makes it hard to keep your mind on golf. It features bent grass tees, greens, and fairways. It is in the Toe River valley and is virtually flat. The golf course opens in April and closes during the month of November.

The course sits at the base of Mt Mitchell in  North Carolina - the highest peak east of the Rockies, 6,683 ft high, the golf course runs alongside the South Toe River which is stocked with native brown trout and rainbow trout.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,495 yards. From the forward tees, the course plays to 5,455 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 12, a par-5 that plays to 530 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 11, a par-3 that plays to 145 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 14, a 450 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Mount Mitchell Golf Club is # 6, a 170 yard par-3.
