Detailed description

Marriott's Bay Point is a Resort, 36 hole golf course located in Panama City Beach, Florida. The facility has two 18-hole golf courses. They are: The Meadows Course and The Nicklaus Course.

The Nicklaus Course was formerly known as The Lagoon Legends golf course. The Lagoon Legends golf courses was designed by Bob Von hagge and Bruce Devlin and opened for play in 1985. The Lagoon Legends was rated the second most challenging course in the United States by the United States Golf Association.

The Nicklaus Course at Bay Point opened to the public on Sept. 17, 2005. The par-72 championship course was designed by Gary Nicklaus and the Nicklaus Design team. They created a completely new layout with a design goal to transform an extremely difficult golf course (the former Lagoon Legend course) into a fun and strategic layout that golfers of all skill levels can enjoy.

The Nicklaus Course measures more than 7,000 yards and features premier putting surfaces resulting in faster, smoother greens. The course boasts an estimated slope rating between 125 -145 and a course rating between 70.0 and 73.5. The design features "illusionary" bunkers, strategically placed to tempt golfers through a "risk/reward" scenario. The course offers a variety of fairways with plateaus and uncharacteristic elevation changes unique to the North Florida coastal area.

#5 offers panoramic views of the Grand Lagoon and St. Andrews Bay. The new design incorporates the natural terrain of majestic scrub oaks, Florida pine trees, sandy-white waste areas and salt-water marshes. #17 features a green design reminiscent of a "fish bowl," as some golf media have described it. This design is where the green is actually recessed below the surrounding landscape, creating a challenging semi-blind shot to the green.

About Bay Point Marriott Resort Nestled on a 1,100-acre wildlife sanctuary overlooking beautiful St. Andrews Bay, the resort offers 356 newly renovated guest rooms (including 78 suites), 36 holes of championship golf The Nicklaus Course and the Meadows Course), four restaurants, deep-sea fishing, tennis, four pools (one indoor/three outdoor), along with a private bay beach area which allows direct access to many of the resort's water sports.
